February Artful Bag Challenge

This month's challenge for the Artful Bag Challenge is Alter It. Using something that is not originally a purse. I used an old hardback book. Removing the guts of the book. I covered the back and front with the pages that were removed. Then waxed over the entire thing. Sides are out of decorative paper and lined inside with the same paper.

Embellished with waxed corn husk flowers, beads, and coffee stained scrim.

I left the back undecorated. I always love how the wax absorbs the paper differently and creates different tones.

A Quick Makeover

I always carry a small notebook. When I worked for Proctor and Gamble we were always getting notebooks of all sizes. They always have advertising on them for new product. This one is the perfect size for my handbag. But I had to do something with the cover.
Went to the fabric stash and just pulled a few I liked. Sewed them together in no order and stitched to book that I cover with paper.
It took about 20 minutes and looks a lot better than the Pro glide:)

Seeing Red

Red work became popular in the 1870's. The term came from the embroidery floss used know as Turkey Red. It was popular among common folk as the cotton fabric and floss was far less expensive than silk. The basic outline stitch is used. Easy and fun. And who says you have to use red. Try whatever color you like..............

Where Have the Years Gone?

Today is daughters graduation from high school. It only seems like yesterday she was starting kindergarten. We were driving her to Girl Scout camp, watching gymnastic class and volleyball practice. Working on school projects. Where does the time go.....
Now, she will be leaving for college the end of June.
We are so very proud of this girl. She is very headstrong and knows what she wants in life. She is funny, sensitive and caring. She is ready for the world. Am I ready? I have done all I can. It is her time to shine. Love you bug. You have grown into a beautiful young women
