From the Old to the New

When my kids were little I was fortunate to be able to stay home with them. So, with all that time I read every book, sought out other mom's, absorbed every bit of information I could. All this just to make sure I was doing "everything right." Oh silly me! During one weekly mom's group meetings we had a speaker come in. I have no idea what her name was. I don't even remember what she looked like.(Oh yeah sleep deprived, with two toddlers). But I did go away with the above saying. It has hung in my house for the last 17 years. Mostly on the refrigerator. At one point I was going to cross stitch a cute little sign. Never got around to it. Anyway the saying has always stuck with me. I would look at the saying when I was up to my elbows in paint, play-dough,markers,chalk,mud,Legos,Barbies, and think it okay to let them express themselves. They are teenagers now and I'm not so sure the messes are all that creative. Dirty dishes and clothes laying on the floor is not my idea of being creative. Any way, now it hangs in "my space". Well I thought it was about time I did this little saying some justice.
TA-DA! What do you think of my new sign? The little buttons on the left say dream, imagine, create . I'm very happy with the way it came out. Now I just need to find a
new home for it. Somewhere in all this mess.

Actually this isn't bad. It has looked a lot worse. I seem to work better when everything is pulled out. "My space" is an extra bedroom, where all the old furniture has landed. I ooh and aah over studio pictures that everyone post. I store all the ideas in a corner of my mind. Someday when "my space" is all grown up it will be beautiful. Until then I'm just grateful I have a space I can call my own. Now it's your turn to use this little saying and be as creative as you can. If you do let me know. I would love to see everyone's version

LOVE the saying and your new embellished version of it!

And your studio shot :) My studio projects always seem to extend onto the floor - it's like a great big king size desk extension! :)

I LOVE that saying! Thanks for sharing! Your studio looks fabulous! I must say you are a creative genius with your studio mess. You should see the pics of mine. Before and after. Before was neat and clean and I hated being in there...now it looks like a tornado went through it and I love it. You go girl! :)

What a cute (and true) sign! I just can't seem to create anything in a clean environment...the messier the happier I am! If I clean up my sewing/craft room I loose my artistic flair!

I don't know if I can do justice to your saying, but I definitely need to put it up in my house, even if it's just dashed onto a piece of white paper with a marker.

I remember a similar saying from when my kids were little, one that stuck with me all these years - "Cleaning the house while the children are growing is like shoveling the walk while it is still snowing."

One of the nicest compliments I ever got was from a parent of one of my youngest son's best friends. Her house was always just this side of immaculate whereas my house was usually just this side of toxic waste dump. She said "My son loves spending time at your house - it's the only place he's allowed to be creative." Because most of the time I let them bake cookies, build forts out of living room furniture, paint or glue or glitter until the dining room table was lost to sight whereas her house was always too clean to risk the inevitable mess. It's nice to put a virtuous spin on sloth once in a while. Hehe.
