Where the Heck Have I Been?

I'm back...........Our trip to Calif was very hard on me. I did not feel good about leaving daughter there. She is doing okay. Not much work, but she has settled in. The trip to see my mom was very hard on me this time. She did know who my husband was the first couple of days. By the last day she had no idea who he was.
When we got back I was in a major funk. No mood to talk to anyone for about a week. I just went about my daily routine on auto pilot. That's why I have not answered any emails or responded to comments. I seemed to have had a lot of negative thoughts and did not want to burden everyone with that.
Last weekend we went to Durango, CO. I moved there in my mid 20's to ski for a winter. I ended up staying for 5 years and got married. There will always be a special spot in my heart for Durango and the La Plata Mountains. We have a long time friend who owns the Silverpick Lodge, where we stay. Our friends from the bay area came out. He and hubby have known each other since they were 13. When they get together they still act like they are 13.lol It was great fun, lots of laughs, lots of drinking, lots of food, and not a lot of sleep. We are just not as young as we used to be......lol. The Silverpick Lodge sits at about 8000 ft. My, oh my I'm a flat lander. Hiking one day I thought my lungs were going to burst. Not to mention my heart was about to beat out of my chest.

View from the front door of the lodge

View from our deck. Aah!!! Green. When you live in the desert you forget how many shades there are..

The Needles/ La Plata MountainsThe contrast between the dark pine trees and the light aspens was just breathtaking.
Silverton Co. Funky little town. We drove up there one morning for breakfast.

Oh Becky, I do not know about leaving daughters in Los Angeles. I can imagine how hard it would be - it is not the prettiest of places to leave a precious babe. But you have people around that would help in any way you might ask. So know that, trust in her, and trust in God that it all a very exciting wonderful adventure for her.

I do know a bit about caring for parents in their last years. It is not an easy thing. It turns your head, your heart, and your insides upside down. So know that it is okay if it takes awhile to get your groove back. It will come in its own time. Just take care of you and your needs as best you can - indulge in TLC, whatever makes you feel better.

Your pictures of CO are beautiful. We are off to Missouri in a few more days. This trip will be better with my family along and we are driving to have some alone time away from everything else. We are actually coming back through Durango on our way home. We've made that trip a couple of times and it is one of our favorite long ways around. I'll whisper your name to the mountains when I am there.

Don't worry about us - we miss you but understand. Take your time and take care of you.

Between you and KC, I am having major homesickness for Colorado. The 5 years we lived there were some of the best. We rode the train that goes between Durango and Silverton. Beautiful country!!

Guess those 5 years were a Rocky Mountain High!

Your daughter will be fine. She is young, but she will learn. If she needs to, she will return home. Take may word for it, they do return!

Hope to see you sometime soon at Merchants!

Watching our children grow and leave the nest is hard...and scary to say the least. Thank goodness for cell phones!

Beautiful Colorado pictures! Makes me want to go.
